CRM Is the Host Sponsor For Cancer Crusade

CRM is pleased to announce the approval of their first
California based workers compensation trust

The Preferred Auto Dealers Self Insurance Program of California (PADSIP) was approved by the California Department of Industrial Relations - Office of Self Insurance Plans on September 15, 2003. The group was started with two core members and $1,400,000 in contributions. Monetary projections for 2003 are promising and should reach in excess of $6,000,000.

The group will be marketed by Complink, Inc. of Irvine California as the Program Field Consultant. As per California regulations, claims will be handled by third party administrator, Matrix Absence Management. CRM will provide all other services including oversight of claims and marketing as the Group Administrator.

As you may know, California is dealing with a very difficult insurance market made up of double digit rate increases. We hope to alleviate some of the hardship for California employers while creating an enormous growth opportunity for CRM.

Of course we are also pleased to announce our official presence in the great state with our first field office located in Woodland Hills, California. In the coming months we hope to get other groups approved so stay tuned.

Claims Department meets with Fraud Inspector

As part of CRM’s training initiative, we recently met with Scott Jaffer, Asst. Inspector General of the Fraud Division of the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board.  The training added new insight with regards to Workers’ Compensation fraud recognition, as well as being brought up to speed with potential fraud cases currently under investigation. It should be noted that recently in the

Binghamton area, an arrest was made of an alleged injured worker for one of our Wholesale/Retail Trust members.  This individual was charged with 2 felonies:  offering a false instrument for filing and fraudulent practices under the NYS Workers’ Compensation Law.  In addition the individual was also charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor.

CRM works very closely with both private investigative firms and the NYS Fraud Inspector General’s Office to insure that those individuals who attempt to take advantage of the Workers’ Compensation System and our trust members, will be investigated and prosecuted if necessary. If you should suspect one of your injured employees is committing insurance fraud, you should contact CRM or report it to the NYS Workers’ Compensation Fraud Division.

CRM Rolls Out Pharmacy Program

On July 1st CRM initiated the use of a Pharmacy Benefit Management Program (PBM) through Express Scripts, a national vender with over 32,000 pharmacies in its nation wide network.  This benefits both injured workers and CRM’s customers significantly.  Typically, an injured worker who is looking to fill a prescription must first pay for it out of pocket and then submit the receipt to the insurance carrier for reimbursement.  The Express Scripts program will allow the injured worker to present an ID card at the participating pharmacy and obtain his/her prescription without the inconvenience of paying out of pocket.  Express Scripts in turn, will bill CRM directly.

A formulary list of approved medications has been developed for CRM with the assistance of a Clinical Pharmacist from Express Scripts. These are medications that would typically be prescribed in Workers’ Compensation related injuries.Non-approved medications would be flagged by Express Scripts and not filled until authorization is received from CRM. This allows the individual adjuster to consult a medical professional on the appropriateness of said medication, prior to authorizing it. An injured worker’s ID card can be customized to include a medication not on the approved list, once its appropriateness has been established. Express Scripts will also check for early refills, duplicate refills, dosage limits, contraindicated drugs and generic substitutions of prescriptions.

For our customers the use of Express Scripts represents savings on claims costs via the dispensing of formulary/generic medications.  TheCRM adjusters are freed up from receiving calls from pharmacies requesting authorization for a prescription or having to issue reimbursement checks to injured workers for out of pocket expenses. This allows the adjuster to spend more time trying to resolve and close cases. Also, Express Scripts bills in bulk, so no individual checks are sent out for prescription reimbursements to injured workers. This is an administrative savings to both CRM and its customers.

CRM Is The Host Sponsor To The Twenty-Ninth Annual Cancer Crusade Golf Tournament
Golfers teed off Monday, July 14th, at the twenty-ninth annual Golf Tournament  in memory of Florence Tobey Murphy & Thomas W. Murphy at McCann Golf Course to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Since its inception twenty-nine years ago, this tournament has raised funds for lifesaving American Cancer Society research, programs and services that benefit Dutchess County cancer patients and their families.  Attracting a sell-out field of 133 golfers this year, the event raised $85,000 to help support American Cancer Society programs such as Road to Recovery, which provides free round-trip transportation to doctor visits and treatments, and Man-to-Man, a prostate cancer education and support program that offers community-based group education, discussion and support for men with prostate cancer.

Daniel Hickey, Jr., President of Compensation Risk Managers, was the event chairman for the second year. Dan and his hard-working volunteer committee, which included Dawn Stewart, Kari & Scott Mangi, Betty Crowley, and Ron Knapp, began planning the tournament six months ago.   In spite of a challenging economy, they successfully recruited volunteers, sold sponsorships, foursomes and solicited donations surpassing the fundraising goal by $15,000!

The tournament's major sponsor is the Murphy Family who has generously supported the tournament since its inception 29 years ago.  The Host Sponsor was Compensation Risk Managers.  Executive sponsors included Carthage Abstract, Ltd, Marshall & Sterling, Smith-Barney in Kingston, Mangi-Vanner Insurance, and Key Bank.  Corporate Sponsors were Hickey-Finn & Co, David Locke, Patrick Page, Poughkeepsie Nissan, Gino's Restaurant, Bottini Fuel, Smith-Barney in Poughkeepsie, & Wheeler Homes.

“The growing support for this event over the past two years has helped the American Cancer Society improve the lives of cancer patients and their families in Dutchess County,” said Hickey.  “We have been working towards attracting a full field of golfers returning this event to its past glory and we succeeded this year!”
